Labor
VALUE STATEMENT
Working people are the backbone of our state’s economy and our shared prosperity. Labor unions are essential to building the power of workers to use their collective voice in their workplace and in our politics. For decades, our community has been able to count on unwavering champions in the Legislature whose work has helped strengthen our safety net and support working people. I am running to continue and build upon that legacy, and as your Senator, no one will work harder to ensure Washington lives up to its values and keeps our promise to workers.
This is personal to me because, as the daughter of immigrant farmworkers, I know how hard my parents fought to work in this state. I saw their labor exploited because of the lack of strong worker protections. I’ve seen firsthand that stories like my mother’s, who decades ago was fired not because of her performance but because she was a victim of sexual harassment, are still far too common today.
This is not right, it is not a world I’m willing to accept, and neither are workers. This is why, no matter what form your labor takes, I will be your unwavering champion in the Legislature.
