Education
Educating the next generation of Washingtonians is one of our most important privileges and responsibilities. Education is also one of the strongest tools we have to advance opportunity, long-term economic stability, and equity.
Growing up, school was my community. I relied on the free school lunch program to help me be learning-ready. I relied on teachers and classmates to help me learn English. And I relied on programs like Upward Bound and Running Start to open the door to possibilities. With these opportunities, and a lot of hard work, I became the first person in my family to graduate from college and received a B.A. in Communication from Washington State University.
We must ensure these resources remain available for the next generation. I am committed to fighting for full, fair, and equitable funding across school districts as mandated by our constitution. This includes good wages for educators and professional staff, like my mom. It includes robust funding for special education, health care professionals, transportation, and more. It also means ensuring an equitable education, safety, and a healthy learning environment for every single student.
We have a long way to go. I am committed to staying the course.
