Education

VALUE STATEMENT

I believe that education is one of the primary tools we can use for advancing equity, opportunity, and long term economic stability. From my personal experience as a first-generation college student and English-language learner I consistently emphasize the importance of public education and its responsibility to students who have been historically underserved.

I believe that it is a constitutional obligation to fully and fairly fund public education. Along with this, the government needs to reinforce its commitment to inclusive school environments where students feel supported and protected from discrimination. Educators also deserve support, training, and fair compensation to carry out these efforts.

Overall, my belief is that education is a public good and should be treated as such. The responsibility to close opportunity gaps falls on the state, and I plan to support this effort in every way that I am able.

AGENDA

  • Advocate for directing more resources to underfunded and high-need school districts

  • Support competitive teacher pay, ongoing professional development, and developing sustainable staffing models

  • Focus on student support and accommodating a variety of needs

  • Keeping public college tuition affordable

  • Fight for an inclusive education policy that protects LGBTQ+ students and other vulnerable populations

TRACK RECORD

  • Supported state budgets that fund K–12 education, educator pay, special education, school meals, and early learning, while maintaining affordability in higher education

  • Backed childcare and early learning investments tied to school readiness and family stability

  • Opposed measures that would restrict protections for LGBTQ+ students, including proposals affecting school athletics

  • Advocated for inclusive, nondiscriminatory school environments when education issues arose in broader civil rights or parental rights debates
